Rowmakers next meeting on 9 October

The next meeting of Rowmakers is on 9 October from 10 am until 12 noon.
Here is a message from co-ordinator Joanne:

Hi ladies

We know have our second last set of INGREDIENTS :-

. STRIPES (Audrey Cureton)

. APPLIQUE/REVERSE APPLIQUE (Shirley Rollins).

They shouldn't be too challenging.

Next month we get our last pair of ingredients. It's up to you whether you do 8 or 9 blocks/items.

The November meeting will be our Show-and-Tell. Hopefully with a prize to be drawn from everyone who brings along their 8 or 9 blocks/items. And December is just a party. Next meeting we'll discuss whether we should plan anything apart from eating.

We've also started talking about next year. If you have any ideas please come along and share them.

Rowmakers Meeting on 11 September - have you caught up?

The next meeting of the ROWmakers design group is on 11 September. A number of people indicated at the last meeting that they were in catch-up mode with their monthly design responses.

The elements drawn out at the last meeting were neutral and diamonds/ hexagons.

Here is a recap of what combinations have come up so far:

Normal Service resumes at Canberra Quilters

Now that the Exhibition is over the normal program of meetings resumes.
First up is the ROWmakers group tomorrow (2nd Wednesday).
 Here is a message from convener, Joanne:

Hi Ladies

Sorry I'm a bit late with my reminder for our meeting this Wednesday, but I've spent five out of the last six days at the quilt show.

I thought it was another quality show with quite a variety of quilt styles and very well organised.

The Sales Room was very successful too.

 I might be able to get a chance to just play around. I know exactly what I want to do for the the last three months - I just have to sit down and do them! Just please don't make this month's too "out there".

ROWmakers set an interesting challenge for next round

ROWmakers met today and here is a message from convener Joanne:

Another pleasant meeting this morning. There weren't as many blocks as normal - but I can't talk, I've still only done three.

But I do know what I'm going to do for the next three (thanks to my friend Annette for a brilliant idea for today's "quite interesting" challenge).

Now I just have to get the designs from inside my head to fabric. I'm not sure that will happen before the Quilt Show, but hopefully I'll manage one.

ROWmakers chooses purple and extra meeting scheduled

Here is a message from our convener, Joanne:

Hi Ladies

It was a relatively quiet meeting on Wednesday - thanks to the horrible weather and the Sydney Quilt Show.

However it was nice to see how some quilts are starting to take shape.

We'll be holding our weekend get-together on Sunday 30 June for ladies who can't make our regular meetings and anyone else who'd like a social afternoon. The more the merrier.

It will be 2.00-4.00 in our room at Cook. Bring a plate if you're feeling so inclined, but there's no pressure.

I'll send out a reminder the week before.

This week the monthly ROWmakers design group had their meeting. The challenge this time was to produce blocks etc incorporating the colour yellow and Celtic/stained glass techniques.
Judging from comments around the room there was some private cursing going on to make this design marriage work.

Here is a message from Joanne, our convener:

We have decided to have a weekend get-together again this year like we did last year.

It will be on SUNDAY 30 JUNE in our Room at Cook from 2.00-4.00 pm. (Bring a plate if you feel inclined - no pressure.)

Hopefully, people who find it difficult to come on Wednesdays will be able to join us.

Please put the date in your diary.

ROW makers meeting held on Wednesday 10 April

At the meeting on Wednesday we gathered again to hopefully bring in our efforts from the second round and choose the elements for the third round. Here is a report from out convener, Joanne:

I love the fact that we're getting over 40 people every month. Our room can comfortably accommodate that many. I expect there might not be so many when the weather turns nasty and the lucky one's head elsewhere. But some of us will still soldier on! (Did I hear someone mumble "martyr complex").

I thought Wednesday's meeting was really interesting. I appreciated the way people were sharing their design decisions.
The INGREDIENTS for next month are:-

 . CELTIC/STAINED GLASS (Kath Pierce)

A little (!) bit more challenging than the first two months but I'm sure we'll be able to push the boundaries.

ROWmakers have completed one round

The ROWmakers design group has met for the second time this year and produced the first items from the round 1 design choices - green and circles/curves.
Some makers chose to make blocks, others are making bags. Here are some of the items produced:

The design elements for the next round are: blue and geometric(squares, rectangles, triangles).

The next meeting is on Wednesday 10 April, 10.00 am for a 10.30 start. It is not too late to participate - perhaps you can do it by correspondence if you can't make the meeting.
There will be a weekend meeting scheduled later in the year so we can all catch up with each other.

Busy Week Ahead

The second week of the month is always a busy one for the special interest groups of Canberra Quilters. These groups are open to any member to participate - they just might have what you are seeking.

We have just had the Art Quilters meet on Saturday (9th). They generally have a mini-workshop of some kind and discuss art quilt ideas.

On Tuesday(12th) the Quilts for Others (QFO) group meets between 10am and 2.30pm for its monthly working bee. Quilts are made for donation to various charitable organisations around the ACT - Tedd Noffs Foundation, Marymead, Karinya etc.Three hundred quilts were distributed in 2012.

On Wednesday  (13th) the ROWmakers design group meets 10.30pm until 12 noon. Participants in this group make a quilt, or a group of objects like bags, placemats or pin cushions over the course of a year. It started off in 2011 making a quilt row-by-row but has expanded in scope each year. This is the second meeting for the year and the first round is due to be revealed - incorporating green and circles/curves.
Here is the first gathering for the year in February. We are all paying close attention to the instruction from convenor Joanne!

On Thursday (14th) Creative Clothing meets between 10am until 2pm. This group is interested in making clothing and accessories tending to the creative end of the spectrum. Members discuss current projects, get help with fitting, cut garments out on the cutting tables.

Also on Thursday is the Modern Quilting group, meeting between 7.30pm until 9.30pm. This group is interested in the Modern Quilting movement. At the moment they are working on scrappy trip-around-the-world as described on the Quiltville blog http://quiltville.com/scrappytrips.shtml

Of course there is the usual drop-in on Wednesday afternoon (1-4pm). This week the Friday drop-in won't take place because of the Sue Bennett workshop in the room. Normal service resumes in Week 3 of the month.

Rowmakers group to meet again in 2013, results from 2012

The design exercises that were undertaken in 2011 and 2012 will happen again in 2013.
In 2011 the group met on the second Wednesday of the month and made row-by-row quilts based on design elements set each month.
In 2012 the group met again and this time the design opportunities were expanded. You could make a row-by-row quilt, or create a feature block each month and then incorporate the blocks into a quilt. Some members chose a different path- one made a jacket, one made a set of Christmas-themed placemats, one a tree skirt and another made a pincushion each month.

ROWmakers last meeting of the year- 14 Nov

Joanne has sent a reminder that next Wednesday is the last ROWmakers meeting of the year. We should get to see all those completed tops (at least) from this year's design exercise. Meeting runs 10.00 for a 10.30 start, until noon.
Here is a bit more from Joanne:
I'll be letting everyone know about the outline for next year. It's a little bit different and some advance notice might allow ideas to percolate. But we all need a little bit of a challenge to keep those grey cells active.

If convenient, a small plate would be appreciated. And you might want to bring your cameras.

I'm hoping for a really good turn-out.

ROWmakers special get-together- Sunday 19 August

The ROWmakers normally meet on the second Wednesday of the month, but because of the exhibition timing they skipped the regular meeting.
To make up for the gap and to let our "correspondence" participants to come to a meeting we are holding a get-together this Sunday, 19 August, in the CQ room, from 2.00pm until 4.00pm

Members and visitors are welcome to come along and see what this design exercise is all about, join us for afternoon tea and a chat.

The July meeting had a double draw of themes to compensate for the missed meeting. The themes chosen:
Round 6 - red, spots/ stripes, hearts
Round 7 - green, embellished/embroidered, birds
