ROWmakers chooses purple and extra meeting scheduled

Here is a message from our convener, Joanne:
Hi Ladies
It was a relatively quiet meeting on Wednesday - thanks to the horrible weather and the Sydney Quilt Show.
However it was nice to see how some quilts are starting to take shape.
We'll be holding our weekend get-together on Sunday 30 June for ladies who can't make our regular meetings and anyone else who'd like a social afternoon. The more the merrier.
It will be 2.00-4.00 in our room at Cook. Bring a plate if you're feeling so inclined, but there's no pressure.
I'll send out a reminder the week before.

The INGREDIENTS chosen for this month are:-
 . PURPLE (Beres Senden)
 .CRAZY PIECING (Kay Provins)

Have fun,

Joanne

Here are some images of a recent get together so you can see what everyone gets up to:

More hand sewing...and some unpicking?

Small Japanese Projects meeting - 26 June

Grace is going to show us how to make the small pop-open thimble holder. On the internet, it seems to be called a ‘thimble pipkin’ – the name is as pretty as the item. It would be a wonderful project to make in silk, if you’re feeling adventurous.

Your tasks:
·         bring some show and tell, for example the rollup thread and needle case from last month
·         bring three 6” squares, or scraps, and handsewing gear, if you wish to start sewing the thimble pipkin on the day

See you at Cook on Wednesday 26th, between 10 and 12.

Guest speaker at 6 June evening meeting: Fiona Hammond

At the evening meeting on 6 June our guest speaker is CQ member Fiona Hammond.
Fiona is a quilter and beader who loves combining mediums and techniques to create her own textile, jewellery and sculptural beadwork pieces - usually with a contemporary feel.
Fiona’s quilts and beadwork have appeared in several Australian quilting, textile art and beading magazines and has also been seen in exhibitions, and won numerous awards and prizes.

This is also the day before the exhibition entry deadline. You can hand in your entry forms at the meeting to  Exhibition Secretary, Elizabeth Rose. Also, Marie Reed will be accepting 'Intention to Sell' forms for the Sales Room (and for selling of exhibition pieces).

The meeting room opens at 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start. The library is open before and after the meeting in the CQ room in the adjacent building.

Working with pre-cuts - 5 June

At the drop-in on the first Wednesday of the month the group explores working with pre-cut fabric.
These take many forms, including the jelly-rolls, layer cakes, honey buns and dessert rolls by Moda fabrics. Other manufacturers and fabric stores have variations on these - charm squares in different sizes, strips etc.
You don't have to buy pre-cuts, you can cut your own or just use scraps.

The pre-cuts drop-in runs from 10 am until 1 pm, then regular drop-in from 1 pm until 4 pm. Some of us are using the space of the CQ room to work on our exhibition quilt at the drop-in.

Call for Entries - Living Colour!

Canberra Quilters' member Brenda Gael Smith is curating another travelling textile exhibition. You may recall "Beneath the Southern Sky", the first such exhibition Brenda organised.
Information from Brenda:
Following the fantastic response to "Beneath the Southern Sky", I am curating another travelling textile art exhibition that will premier at the Australasian Quilt Convention in 2014.  ALL textile artists are invited to submit an entry exploring the theme "Living Colour!" Each work will be in a 100x40cm (L x W) vertical format and up to 30 works may be selected. To submit an entry, please review the Conditions of Entry and complete the Online Entry Form at http://www.livingcolourtextiles.com

The closing date for entries is 31 January 2014. No entry fee is payable unless your work is selected. International entries are welcome.

Please help spread the word.  I can't do it without you!

Please consider being part of this exhibition. With a title like that it promises to provide a wonderful exploration of colour.
